I can't hear the dialler's tones

Calls work, but you hear no busy, call started or call ended tone from the Myphoner Voice dialler.

Written by Jeppe Liisberg

The Myphoner Voice dialler plays its tones in your browser: the busy and invalid number tones, the tone when a call starts, and the tone when an answered call ends without you hanging up. If calls connect and you can talk, but you never hear these tones, your browser is most likely blocking Myphoner from playing sound by itself.

1. Check the tone settings

Click your avatar, select My Preferences and open Dialling. Make sure the tones you expect are turned on:

  • Play signal tones

  • Play call initialized tone

  • Play call ended tone (off by default)

Reload the page after changing a setting. You won't hear the call ended tone if you hang up yourself or drop a voicemail.

See Setting Up Your Dialler for what each tone does.

2. Allow Myphoner to play sound

Browsers can block websites from playing sound without a click, which is called autoplay. When autoplay is blocked, the dialler's tones are silent even though your calls work.

Firefox

  1. Click the icon to the left of the web address, on a Myphoner page.

  2. Next to Autoplay, choose Allow Audio and Video.

  3. Reload the page.

To allow it permanently, go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Permissions → Autoplay → Settings… and add your Myphoner address with Allow Audio and Video.

Safari

  1. With Myphoner open, choose Safari → Settings for This Website…

  2. Set Auto-Play to Allow All Auto-Play.

  3. Reload the page.

Chrome and Edge

  1. Click the icon to the left of the web address and open Site settings.

  2. Set Sound to Allow. In Edge, also set Media autoplay to Allow.

  3. Reload the page.

3. Check your audio output

If the tones are still silent, check that the browser tab isn't muted and that sound from your browser goes to the headset you call with.
