When you sign up with your work email, we email you a six-digit code to confirm the address. The same kind of code is what you get when you choose Email me a code to sign in. This article covers both.
The code rules are the same for both:
The code has six digits and works for 15 minutes.
Each code allows 5 tries.
You can ask for a new code 30 seconds after the last one.
Only the newest code works. Asking for a new one cancels the older one.
Signing up and signing in differ in a few places. Those are covered at the end.
The code hasn't arrived
Wait a minute. Codes are usually quick, but email can lag.
Check your spam or junk folder. The sign-up email's subject is "Your Myphoner code". The sign-in email's subject is "Your Myphoner sign-in code".
Check the address on the screen. The code screen says "We sent a 6-digit code to" and shows your address. If it's misspelled, choose Use a different email and enter it again.
Resend the code. Resend code is greyed out and shows a countdown for the first 30 seconds. When it turns on, choose it. You'll see "We sent you a new code."
Use the newest email. If you asked for several codes, only the latest one works.
If you used a free address such as Gmail or Yahoo, we don't send a code at all. You see "Please use your business email — free providers like Gmail and Yahoo aren't allowed for trial signups." See Why can't I sign up with a free email address?.
If your company filters email, ask your IT contact to let messages from Myphoner through, or sign up with Google or Microsoft instead (see below).
"That code has expired."
A code works for 15 minutes. Choose Resend code, then enter the new code. If Resend code is greyed out, wait for the countdown to finish.
"Too many tries with that code."
Each code allows 5 tries. The full message is "Too many tries with that code. Send a new code to try again." Choose Resend code and enter the new one. A new code starts with 5 tries again.
Before that, a wrong code shows "That code doesn't match. Check the latest email from us and try again." with the number of tries left. Spaces and dashes in the code are ignored.
"We send at most five codes to an address in 24 hours"
We send at most five codes to one address in 24 hours. When you reach that limit, the Resend code button is replaced by the message "We send at most five codes to an address in 24 hours, and that limit has been reached. Try again in 24 hours, or contact [email protected]."
The 24 hours count from your first code. Starting again with the same address doesn't reset them. Wait until they have passed, or write to us (see the end of this article).
"You already have an account"
This screen appears after you enter a correct code, when the address is already used on one or more Myphoner accounts. It says "{address} is already used on these accounts. Sign in to one of them, or create a new account."
Each account is listed with its company name and address, and a Sign in link. The link opens that account's sign-in page with your email filled in. If the account requires Google or Microsoft sign-in, the link reads Sign in with Google or Sign in with Microsoft.
Create a new account carries on with the sign-up and creates a separate account.
If you can't remember your password, use Email me a code on the account's sign-in page. See I can't log in.
Sign up with Google or Microsoft instead
You can skip the code. On the first sign-up screen, choose Continue with Google or Continue with Microsoft. They confirm your email for us, so there's no code.
The same rule applies: the address must be a business address, not a free one.
If the buttons are greyed out with "Single sign-on isn't available on this plan.", that plan doesn't include Google and Microsoft sign-in. Use the email code instead.
If the sign-up page says it can't find your signup
If you see "We can't find your signup. It may have expired after a day, or been started in another browser.", choose Start again and we'll email you a new code. Finish the sign-up in the same browser you started it in. If you enter the same address in a second browser, the first browser can no longer carry on with it.
Signing in with a code
A sign-in code works on your own account's address only (for example yourcompany.myphoner.com). On the sign-in page, choose Email me a code, enter your email, then enter the code on the "Check your email" page. The code limits above apply, with these differences:
Five codes: we send at most five codes in a row. The count starts again after you sign in, or after a day passes with no new code. This limit is separate from the sign-up limit.
No countdown and no limit message. If you ask again within 30 seconds, or after the fifth code, no email is sent, and the page looks the same as before. The page says "If that email has an account here, we've sent a code." If nothing arrives, wait a minute, then choose send a new code on the code page.
Expired or locked codes: the messages are "That code has expired. Send a new code to try again." and "Too many tries with that code. Send a new code to try again." Choose send a new code, which takes you back to Email me a code.
Use one browser. Ask for the code and enter it in the same browser. If you ask again from another browser, the first one can't use the code any more.
Who gets a code: you won't get one if your account requires Google or Microsoft sign-in, if you haven't accepted your invite yet, or if the email isn't a user on this account. The page looks the same in each case, so check the address and the account first.
Still stuck?
Email [email protected] from any address you can read. Tell us:
the email address you used;
roughly when you asked for the code;
whether you were signing up or signing in;
the exact message on screen.
Don't send us the code itself.
